THE NORTH

It's always hard for me to capture what it is about this place that gives my soul rest. This time, I've decided to put up lots of pictures in five categories. The categories are reasons why we love being at the cabin. They are in no particular order.

1. Relatives: we usually manage to gather my whole family here once a year. Beyond that, there are often relatives who come and go throughout the summer, and we consider ourselves lucky when we are there at the same time as them.

2. Rocks and Water: there's something about both rocks and water that feeds my spirit. This summer, it has been a joy to watch as my littlest responds strongly to both as well.

3. Relaxing: It's almost mandated here. Something about the air and the light just forces us to relax. Our family sometimes refers to it as the all-important work of "holding down the dock" even if we're not on the dock.

4. A kid's fantasyland: There is endless wholesome entertainment for the kids here. They can play all day outside, and it feels like they are using their bodies just like they are meant to be used.

5. Beauty: There is a type of twilight here that is like no other. There is also a peace, a quiet, a stillness. It brings us closer to the natural world in an intimate way.

Oh yes. You've captured it so very, very well. I love seeing all of these pictures of your little ones. I love seeing pictures of Up North and getting that Up North lightness-of-being feeling.
