The coming and going of our cat, Jack, has been somewhat of a roller coaster for the girls, although I think they are generally handling it well. After not seeing him for a good 8-9 months solid, he showed up to say "hi" the other day. While it was good to know that he was alive and well, since then, we have explained again and again why he is now a cat of the wild, and why he would not be happy if we tried to bring him back inside, etc. etc.
The other day, Greta told me, "Mama, I figured out that Jack needs us to teach him how to be a good house pet. One way we could do that is to show him the movie 'Aristocats.' That would teach him to be a house cat!"
Later, Greta brought me a sealed envelope and asked me to write the following on it. I did, and she explained that she drew a picture of Jack watching "Aristocats" and she knew how to send it to him to let him know how to become a good house pet."

This reminds me, Greta is into deductive reasoning lately. She often says things like, "Mama, if cats are real and Aristocats is about cats, then Aristocats is real!" She comes up with all sorts of equations like this. Often, she has this look of deep contemplation on her face.
