PRAYERS
I have to admit, I'm not one to pray, especially out loud. However, I have been experimenting with bedtime prayers with the girls, and they are really latching on to it. They get excited about it. I ask them to think about what they are thankful for that day, and ask if there's anything on their mind that they'd like to bring up. It has felt good to end the day with this practice of gratitude. It's been good for me as well as them to focus this way. They've said some pretty sweet things, like when Mali said she was concerned about the world. I asked her why, and she said because it's just so. . . beautiful. Tonight, Greta enthusiastically put her little hands together, closed her eyes and said, "God, I know you are Peaceful and Good. I'll see you again next time. All men."

Precious times. Have you heard of a prayer pot? I am thinking about doing it when we move to Colombia....when they have a special clay pot with a lid (or small basket) and they write what they are grateful for or concerned about and put it in the pot....I think Abby especially would latch on to this.
sounds like a good idea. then do you do anything with what they write?
All men.
Kate - do you remember your (pl) gratitude journals? One of your (pl, again) nighttime prayer actiities that was almost all ways sure to drift you into sleep was nameing. "...Grossmama loves Katie, and Uncle Fred loves Katie.....Peter loves Katie..........Grandma loves Katie........on and on and on.
You are so gifted at encouraging their beauty and depth and vision, helping it grow.
Thank you.
Ma, I'm not sure what pl is?
I must remember that ritual on some level, because when Mali was a baby I sang that to her in a song, "Everyone who loves little Mali". I thought I made it up!
I was partially inspired to start testing out prayers at night by the beautiful selections you chose from your prayer book over the holidays.
PLURAL, as in you AND Wendy AND Ben AND Jenny.
Thanks for the reminder ! I'll get the prayers on the blog!
