REMEMBERING

My mom recently reminded me of a couple of Hafiz poems I sent her while I was in this stage of pregnancy with Mali. The waiting. This one we used as Mali's birth announcement. Still, it gets me every time. It reminds me of motherhood, of that gift of giving ourselves without doubt or hesitation. The simplicity and purity of that love is something so unique. I remember when I first discovered it, and I immediately knew that my own mother had this same kind of love for me. What a treasure to discover!

The Sun Never Says

Even
After
All this time
The sun never says to the earth,

"You owe me."

Look
What happens
With a love like that,
It lights the
Whole
Sky.
