We spent December 22-26 in a beach house, on Playa Verde. It was right outside the quaint town of Piriapolis, Uruguay. The house was primitive, but great for our needs – we walked to the beach at least once a day, and were some of only a few people there. We loved spending this time together, and noticed that we were focusing on each other more than we had in a long, long time. Our days were spent just being together, with very few distractions. We dug in the sand together, ate the best fish ever, decorated our borrowed house together, collected shells and rocks, played soccer on the beach, chased waves, created a festive mood with Raffi’s Christmas, paper-made decorations, and a fancy Christmas tea party. The girls were good sports with this Christmas being different then usual. The hype that we are so used to in the US was practically non-existent. We saw very few Christmas decorations – maybe 2 houses total with lights up. Santa brought a modest amount of surprises, and the girls were still happy. It was refreshing to see this, and to be reminded that Christmas is so much more than getting gifts. We are incredibly grateful to have had this experience. Christmas 2007 is a year we will remember!
