THE END OF THIS BLOG

is not now, nor relatively soon. But, I started this blog when we moved down to Georgia, in an effort to keep in touch with family and friends and I have decided to close this blog when we move (which is not for another several months). I will make a hard copy for our family and start a new blog in our new place. Now, what I am debating (and started this blog debating this, too) is private or public. I have some thoughts about it, but haven't decided. I look at the stats, and am amazed that there are 1400 visits in one month (though that is probably not all that many for a public blog), that the visitors come from the US, Canada, Colombia, Uruguay, Lebanon, United Kingdom, Mexico, Switzerland, and Australia. In a way, it's fun to think of who I may know in Lee's Summit, Missouri or Monroe, Michigan, or Zurich, Switzerland or Beirut, Lebanon. I like feeling connected, even if I don't know for sure with whom. It's also a little weird not to know who exactly is behind the statistics. Of course, I do know who many of you are, and I have to say, GO MADISON!!! Madison, Wisconsin gave me more hits than my own turf here in Georgia! In fact, almost twice as many. Thank you, friends and relations of the north!

If I do go private, I want to be sure that everyone who wants to read the blog has a chance to do so. In that case, I would openly ask that all readers who want to read the new blog send me contact info so I can invite you. In the mean time, I have posted a poll. Go ahead and vote (anonymously). If you have an opinion about it that is not an option on the poll, just let me know.

i go round and round on this one.

i am sure that your perspective on life is inspiring.

if you go private, there will be people missing out on that....though that isn't your job!

see, round and round i go.

hmmmm. hadn't even considered what this blog may give to people i don't know. i'm not even sure that it gives much in the way of inspiration, but i have been on the receiving end of that on another stranger's blog many times.

I almost had a panic attack when I thought you might stop blogging all together. What a relief that you won't be stopping for good! I've so enjoyed keeping up with your family this way and, despite the fact that we don't see each other often, I'll miss knowing that you drive past my little hamlet now and again.

Well, we, of course, want to keep reading, no matter what you decide!

I think that there's pluses and minuses on both sides of the fence. As someone who has a private blog, I miss the surprise connection that can happen when someone jumps from one blog to another and finds me (!). On the other hand, I like knowing and visualizing the people who have signed on, and directing my posts and pictures with them in mind.

I'm sure that whatever you decide will be right for this moment.

I have never had a stranger comment on my blog, so I just believe they don't even come....I want to keep reading, and have loved Red Clay Wings...how did Madison beat Kansas? And how do you look?

google.com/analytics is how you check. it's free and it's interesting.

I am always going over this same dilemma with my own blog. I do my best to not use my children's names or say where we live, but I know if someone really wanted to find out, they probably could pick out clues all over my blog.

That being said, the majority of followers on my blog are homeschool moms that I have never even meet before. If my blog was private I would not have had the chance to share with them.

However, I do feel sometimes, that I can not share as much as I would if it were a private blog.

Like Kristin said "round and round I go".

Personally, I don't think a private blog would be that much fun. Maybe it's just the exhibitionist in me, but I like knowing other people can check in with me at my blog. I try not to share things I'm not comfortable with others knowing. I wouldn't have known about your blog if it hadn't been for Kristin (or Jen?) linking to it. I'd definitely like to keep reading yours, Katie.

i just learned there are more pages of stats, and in the last month i've had visitors from 25 states and 8 countries!

I always assume part of those stats are because Blogger gives the "Next Blog" option at the top, which takes you to a random blogspot blog. I click that option from time to time and visit lots of random blogs. I will generally read one or two posts and never again visit that blog, so that's what I like to assume other people are doing as well. I don't know you at all (and I am quite positive you've never heard my name), but I am an acquaintance of several of your family members and have the Bethel connection, which makes the fact that I enjoy your perspective cooler than if I enjoyed the perspective of someone who I cannot make any connections to -- does that make sense? I would miss being able to do that if this blog were private, but would also understand. Good luck!

I'll keep reading no matter what, of course. I personally think that whenever you have a website, you should assume it's public...in terms of what content you post and opinions and so forth. I think it depends on what you think of privacy for your family. (I've thought about this, too, and I've decided I like having more readers...so I've stayed public.)

I'm a friend of Suzanne and Husayn. Reading and listening to your blog is calming and sweet. My boys, 6 and 9, love the music. If you decide to go to a private blog, may I continue reading :)

Katie -

I check your blog from time to time. Your blog came to me through the suggestion of AnnaMarie, who is such a dear friend. I think it may have been Mali, singing her song "Flowers" that grabbed my heartstrings.
However, I adore reading your posts and following your beautiful family. Your posts always seem to bring a smile to soul. Please keep me in mind if you do go private. I'd hate to miss another Mali original!
