MY LITTLE TEACHER

Greta is teaching me all sorts of things throughout the day. Mostly, I hear her pipe up from the back seat of the van when we're driving somewhere.

"Um, Mama, did you actually know that it is a catastrophe to have no voice?"

"Um, Mama, did you know that flamingos need to eat algae. If they eat enough, it will make their feathers turn pink."

Sometimes, I can figure out the source of what she says. For example, the first quote is from Trumpet of the Swan. However, most of the time I honestly have no idea where she got the things she says!

She is correct. Flamingos in the wild are pink from eating either shrimp or blue-green algae and if I remember correctly, it is the beta-carotenethat turns them red. Which is why flamingos in zoos are fed lots of carrots, otherwise they would turn white.
