CHURCH IN THE CAR

Today I had church in the car. The speakers were Mali and Greta, and they were quite inspiring! My kids don't always talk like this, but when they do, I am humbled and filled with wonder at where they picked it up!

On the way to the park, this is what I heard:

Greta: Mama, what those guys did in the movie (Sound of Music) when they tried to take away the Daddy, that wasn’t good for the Earth. That’s because it was not kind, so they were not being peaceful, and that is not good for the Earth.
Mali: Yeah, being peaceful means to be kind, so if they are not being kind they are not being peaceful. Peaceful also means to be quiet.
Greta: People need to be peaceful because that is what God and Mother Earth want us to do. I know, because God told me that a long, long time ago.
Mali: Yeah, and Mother Earth told me the same thing!
Greta: It is important that we are peaceful because that is how we can let God and Mother Earth know that we understand what they believe.
Mali: We can be peaceful by always being kind and quiet.
Greta: Yeah, so that means if we want someone’s attention, we should not do something to hurt them. Also, we should never say, “I want this. I want this. I want this.” That is not good for the Earth either.
Mali: And we should never leave anyone out. And when you say, “I won” that makes someone feel left out.
Greta: Yeah.

And on the way home, this:

Greta: Mama, we saw that girl and she looked lonely, so we went to talk to her.
Me: That was nice. Thanks for being a good friend.
Mali: Greta always feels good about talking to people right away, even if she doesn’t know them!
Greta: That’s because being shy is kinda good for the Earth, but it’s not really good for the Earth.
Mali: Why?
Greta: Because if I’m shy, I’m worried that I will never get to talk to that person. If I don’t talk to them, then they might never understand what I am saying. But being shy is good for the Earth because it’s quiet. But I don’t think you should ever be shy.

Wow. And the other day the deepest conversation I had with my 3yo was how the cookies were sad because they had no frosting yet :)
