This must be one of my favorite holidays -- seriously. I have realized what a privilege it is to live in the Atlanta area, and to be able to walk the sidewalks where Martin Luther King, Jr. walked in his growing years. While the conversations with the girls about the holiday and the day's events have become increasingly complicated and difficult, it also feels good to be able to talk to them with this amount of depth. They are little sponges who want to soak up all the information they can. Best of all, we spent the day with our dear friends, which always leaves us refreshed. Rachel made a delicious birthday cake and we sang to MLK. We headed down to the memorial and threw wishing coins in the reflection pool. We walked through the King Center and remembered. The kids were able to both run and play with delight and also ask difficult questions and ponder them. While the day was not without meltdowns and overstimulation, it was indeed a good day.
