The other day, I cut our grass using this mower, which was given to us by some dear friends some 10 years ago. We haven't used it as much as we should, but I have renewed joy in cutting our lawn with this fine tool. Here is why I find it rewarding:
It requires real hard work, which results in exercise.
I have become fond of the quiet rat-a-tat-tat that replaces a loud engine.
I love to see what is being cut - be it grass or dandelion or pink flowers dropped from the tree.
I love to smell the cuttings, rather than exhaust (especially when I hit a little patch of mint).
The girls will stay close by because they are not scared of the sound.
I am not nervous about the girls playing close by, because they won't be hurt by it.
I get a thrill from using something old like this (probably an antique) that works just fine.

that's the kind we use! daniel loves trying to push it around.
When we have our own yard someday, I want one of those! Hey, I love the picture of Mali and Greta that begins your post--perfect!
We have one too, along with nice neighbors who let us borrow their gas one when we let it get too long!
I echo Rachel's comment about the pic. Love it!!
our neighbors on either side have offered their gas mowers to us when they see us using this one!
oh, so glad to see it in action.
i think i would enjoy one like this too...but oh, jerry loves his loud power one.
