Another family tradition -- this one was started by my mom when we lived on a farm. Originally, they created the menu from what they grew themselves, including the beef! So, now every year they host a feast in celebration of the birthday of Saint Nicholas. It consists of a 5 course meal of delicious food! My mom works very hard at this every year, and it is always a wonderful event. Each year they invite a new family as guests, and we eat the EXACT same meal. Once the meal is finished, the many collections of nativity scenes (called "jesus people" in our family) are brought out of the basement. For the rest of the evening, we set up the nativity sets all over the house. This year's guests were wonderful to have. They were enthusiastic and easy and pleasant. Mali and Greta especially liked their boys. Greta attached herself to Seth, saying he was Mark and she was Katie. One time I overheard her say to Seth (as she was following him around), "Okay, Mali and Greta are asleep in their bed now."

Oh how I love family.
Thank you for these images!
My feast was spent eating rum cake with my women's choir.
