Our family's sleeping arrangements are ever-evolving. Right now, it's going really well (we're all sleeping well). The girls are sleeping together in a bed in our room. I love hearing them cuddle and talk and comfort each other. Early this morning, this is what I heard:
Greta: Mali, are you awake?
Mali: yes.
Greta: Mali, cuddle me.
Greta: Mali, I'm scared of the dark. Will you tell me about it?
Mali: Well, the dark takes care of the night. And it makes it so you can sleep.
Greta: But I'm scared of the dark in my face.
Mali: It's okay. The dark is friendly. It gives us the moon and the stars. And then it goes down.
Greta: It goes down?
Mali: Yea, the dark goes down so the sun can come up!
Then Mali proceeds to sing the sweet song that Grandma always sings:
I love the moon and the moon loves me
God bless the moon and God bless me
and God bless the one that I want to see
I love the moon and the moon loves me.
This morning, I am amazed at the sweetness that I awoke to. I feel so very lucky.

So much of this reminds me of you and me. I have such fond memories of sleeping together, and of late night and early morning conversations. I tell these stories to my kids. Remember how BAD we were at bedtime?

I do remember Dad coming up to tell us we needed to be quiet. And giggling. And I remember playing games with our feet.
i have heard some of these same stories...i am eager to watch sister love grow in my own home now too...
the simplicity of this life you share is hopeful.
Your girls are so, so sweet! This should also be affirmation to your tender, loving, wonderful, inspiring, encouraging, creative, ... mothering. You are such a great example and I think of you often.
I love these glimpses into your life...what sweet, wise children you have...
